Smartphone Data Plans Getting Out of Hand

I don’t think a lot of people are paying attention to the rate at which their phone plans are rising but when you compare it to the rising costs of other product markets and industries, they beat them by far.

I won’t take for granted the TONS of features the smartphone promises the user but the monthly prices are nor approaching the rates of leasing a New Honda Civic.  You’re now comparing a car, that gets you from place to place versus a smartphone that provides additional conveniences to a regular voice phone.

Now let’s compare the upcoming iPhone 4 vs 2010 Honda Civic.

iPhone 4 (per month)

  • DataPro 2GB for iPhone: $25
  • Nation Unlimted: $69.99
  • Messaging Unlimited: $19.99
  • TOTAL: $120

2010 Honda Civic (per month)

  • Monthly: $150

I know there are other factors to account for such as gas in order to drive the Honda Civic or that fact that leasing a Honda Civic is not the same as purchasing the unit. But my point is – it costs a lot to use an iPhone or any other smartphone today, in comparison to other costs that are defined as a NEED vs a WANT.

There will be a day in the future when NEEDS (food, water, air, health, sunlight, etc.) will be priced higher than WANTS
