I have multiple OS running on my laptop and I forgot about using Ubuntu. I accidentally ran Ubuntu today and almost forgot how much better it is than Windows. Since I no longer play games, I’m planning on migrating to Ubuntu indefinitely.
For those of you who have not heard of Ubuntu, it’s is a free computer operating system based on the Linux Kernel. Its name comes from the Zulu word “ubuntu”, loosely translated as “humanity” or “A person is a person only through other people”. Ubuntu’s goals include providing an up-to-date, stable operating system for the average user, with a strong focus on usability and ease of installation. Ubuntu has been rated as the most popular Linux distribution for the desktop, claiming approximately 30% of desktop Linux installations in a survey.
I definitely advise those who use the computer for non-gaming, to check it out. You’ll be able to do about everything you can do in Windows on Ubuntu including instant messaging (aim, msn, etc.) via Pidgin to editing word and excel documents. It’s become so popular that it’s hitting mainstream. Many desktops and laptops include the Ubuntu OS as a budget option.
